When we first arrived we were seated and the head of the house passed around a little bottle. We did the polite thing, looked at the bottle, sniffed it and passed it on to the next person with our right hand. (It was snuff. The Mongolian men each took some. It is like smoking the peace pipe.) Next we were given this white milk tea. Nara said to smell it and smile and hold it. We did. The members make this without the tea and it is very good. It is a milk with salt.(and tea if you aren't a member.). The large bowl in the center is yogurt. It was very good. This family makes all their own food. We had some "cookies" but they were purchased by the director of the children's center. There is a plate behind the blue thermos. On that plate is yak cream. It is very much like a thick whipping cream. They skim it off the milk and use it like butter. It is naturally very sweet. I liked it very much.
