View from the lake. Lake Khovsgol. This lake is located in the northwest of Mongolia, near the border of Russia at the foot of the eastern Sayan Mountains. It is 1,645 m above sea level. It is 136 km long and 262 m deep. It is the second largest fresh water lake in Asia. It is one of 17 ancient lakes and one of the most pristine. It is the most significant drinking water preserve in Mongolia. The water is potabel wtihout any treatment.. The ice gets strong enough in the winter to support heavy trucks, however this practice is now forbidden to protect the lake from pollution.

We were at the end of one of the small fingers of the lake.
